Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work

Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work! is (despite the number) the fourth game in Al Lowe's Leisure Suit Larry series. The middle-aged would-be-womanizer Larry Laffer fell off a boat during a cruise and sustained amnesia, forgetting how he and his sweetheart Patti got separated, how Larry got a job in LA, how Patti got a job with the FBI, and what happened in (the never released) Larry 4. Now Larry and Patti are working independently on two cases that are connected to each other, even though the heroes aren't aware of that. Larry's new bosses are involved in shady business, while Patti agrees to take a break from her career as a performing pianist and become an undercover agent. Will the two be together ever again?

Download
Unlike the previous games with their text input, Larry 5 utilizes a graphical, icon-based interface. The player uses verb commands ("Look", "Talk", "Use" etc.) to interact with the environment. In a way not quite typical for Sierra's adventure games, it is impossible to "die" in Larry 5, and the amount of "dead ends" (unwinnable situations) is greatly reduced. The game is also less puzzle-oriented, allowing the player to proceed even if he/she fails to solve the required puzzle in some cases. However, the player is awarded more points for finding the "right" solution. As in the third game, both Larry and Patti are available as playable characters during different chapters of the story.

Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up or Slip Out!

Shape Up or Slip Out! is the fifth game in Al Lowe's Leisure Suit Larry series. All the events from the previous games are forgotten. Larry is once again single, and again his goal is to capture the interest of various ladies. By sheer coincidence, Larry finds himself on a TV Game Show called "Stallions". He wins a weekend at the Spa Resort, La Costa Lotta. Naturally, there are some beautiful women in the spa who are just dreaming about such a wonderful, handsome man as Larry! Uh... or is it really so? It is the player's goal to find out!

Download
This instalment focuses more on conversations with women and puzzles than on the storyline. The entire game is spent at La Costa Lotta. There are plenty of traditional inventory-based puzzles to solve in the game. Larry can die, but the player is allowed to try again every time that happens, without the need to restore a saved game. This is also the first Larry game with SVGA graphics, and voice-overs in the CD version.

Leisure Suit Larry III: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals

Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals! is the third game in Al Lowe's Leisure Suit Larry series. Larry Laffer has finally found the woman of his dreams, and can happily live with her together on the beautiful tropical island... until he gets thrown out of the house by his wife. His boss, who happens to be his (now ex-) father-in-law, fires him. Larry is all alone, without a woman, without a job, on an island that has long ceased to be a "tropical paradise" and is exploited by entertainers, lawyers, and alike. But never despair! Dressed in his irresistible leisure suit, Larry is about to conquer the world (or at least its female population) anew. Watch out, fairer sex, because Larry is back to his swinging self!

Download
The game uses the same text-based interface and the same graphical engine as the previous entry in the series. The structure of the game, however, is more similar to that of the first installment: most of the time, the player is confined to one large area which can be freely explored. Unlike the two previous Larry games, the player does not just control Larry, but also - in the second half of the game - the enigmatic and beautiful pianist Patti, helping them to reach an ending that will finally bring happiness into Larry's life.

Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love (In Several Wrong Places)

Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love (In Several Wrong Places) is the second game in Al Lowe's Leisure Suit Larry series. Continuing the plot of the previous game, the swinging single Larry Laffer has finally found his true love and is happily living with her. Right? Wrong!.. Because Larry is mercilessly thrown out by his great love and is left all alone, penniless, and womanless, in Los Angeles. Accidentally, Larry comes into contact with KGB agents who will pursue him all over the globe from now on. And there is also the evil doctor Noontonyt plotting evil schemes on a remote tropical island... Looks like Larry will have to forget about his women-related problems for now... or is it so?

Leisure Suit Larry 1: In the Land of the Lounge Lizards

Leisure Suit Larry 1: In the Land of the Lounge Lizards is a remake of the first gamein the Leisure Suit Larry series. It introduces a new interface. Instead of typing commands, the player performs the desired actions by choosing appropriate icons, and then clicking on objects on the screen to interact with them. The graphics are now 256 color VGA. There is also much more music than in the original version, and it supports more advanced sound formats.

Download
Larry, the game's protagonist, is a short, tacky, balding, leisure suit-wearing kinda guy who's constantly searching for his next score. His combination of stupidity and brashness gets Larry into trouble. The object is to get him out of trouble in traditional adventure fashion, finding and manipulating objects as you thread your way through the story line. The content is comedic and adult-oriented. A graphical interface is used with a text parser to input commands. Typical of Sierra games, progress is tracked through a set amount of points, awarded for advancement or minor actions.

Hoyle Official Book of Games: Volume 3

Six board games are transformed to the computer screen in the third Hoyle's release. Snakes & Ladders, Backgammon, Yacht / Yahtzee, Checkers, Dominoes and Pachisi / Parcheesi all feature, with animated graphics and sound effects. As there is no time-sensitive action, and the game rules are familiar, these packs were designed to appeal to a wider range of people than most computer games.

Download
At least one human player is required - other players can be human or computer. The 18 computer opponents from the first Hoyle's game return, many of them modeled on other Sierra characters such as Larry Laffer, and again some play 'good' and some play 'evil'.

Hoyle Official Book of Games: Volume 2

The sequel to Hoyle's Book Of Games. There are lots of games in this edition, but all of them are Solitare games. So if you like playing many different versions of solitare, buy volume 2 of hoyles book of games!

Hoyle Official Book of Games: Volume 1

Play six different card games (Crazy Eights, Old Maid, Hearts, Gin Rummy, Cribbage, and Klondike Solitaire) against 0-3 computer opponents (as appropriate for each game).

Download
There are 18 available computer opponents, including characters from other Sierra games (Colonel Henry Dijon, Shelly LeBlanc, Officer Sonny Bonds, Larry Laffer, King Graham, Roger Wilco and Princess Rosella), Sierra employees (Warren Schwader and Jerry Moore) and their children, and others. The different opponents play the different games at different skill levels, and are broken up into "Serious" and "Not-So-Serious" categories. All the opponents will taunt you (in character) as you play (though you can turn off in-game conversation if it's too distracting).

Touche: The Adventures of the Fifth Musketeer

Geoffroi Le Brun, ensign in His Majesty’s musketeers, arrives in the middle of the night in 16th century Rouen, France, to start his new posting at the musketeer headquarters. At the moment he arrives, the unfortunate Comte d’Itee, William de Peuple, is attacked by bandits and his precious will is stolen. Geoffroi offers him, just before he dies, his assistance to find his will.

Download
Of course, getting it back will not be easy, and he must travel back and forth across France to accomplish his quest, visiting the cities of Amiens, St Quentin, Le Mans, Paris, and Le Havre. However, he is assisted by a clever manservant, called Henri, who will be a great help, without any doubt. With some luck, he will hunt the murderer(s) down and find the will. And who knows, maybe he will meet a beautiful lady or find a fortune on the way.
Touché: The Adventures of the Fifth Musketeer is a humorous, inventory-based point and click adventure game. By right-clicking on a hotspot a context-sensitive action interface pops up, showing the relevant actions. The game is a full talkie with captions, music and sound effects. It features a progressive traveling map, which allows to visit new locations after having solved various puzzles.

Tony Tough and the Night of Roasted Moths

A dastardly alien is stealing all of the children's Halloween candy! Tony Tough P.I. will not stand for this. He sets out to stop the fiend before it's to late, and the alien takes over the world! Tony Tough is a traditional 2D "point and click" adventure with a crazy story. The humor and style are reminiscent of old LucasArts games, like Day of the Tentacle.

Download
Players control the titular Tony Tough, a private detective described as "a gnome-sized, nasal-voiced hypochondriac momma’s boy",[6] guiding him through the game by positioning the cursor over objects and instructing Tony to interact with them. The game shares many traits with titles such as Day of the Tentacle, which it has been compared with by reviewers.[6][7] These include a focus on conversations with strange characters, puzzle solving, and combining and using items found throughout the game. The graphics and animation are cartoon-like.[6] Two modes of play are present; beginner mode has less puzzles and does not feature the two in-game mini-games.

Toonstruck

Toonstruck is a point-and-click adventure in the style of Monkey Island. It uses a one-icon system, and the protagonist is a motion-captured actor against an animated environment.

Download
Like an adventure game in the Roger Rabbit style. Drew Blanc, the main character, is played by Christopher Lloyd, whom you may know as the professor in Back to the Future and Fester in The Addams Family movies. He ventures through the animated world consisting of very weird cartoon characters. The land is being overrun by an evil doctor, and you, as Drew, must stop him.

TeenAgent

You take the role of Mark Hopper, an ordinary teenager who gets hired by the RGB intelligence (he was selected by a fortune teller) to solve the mystery of gold disappearing from the Mega Bank. But first you're sent to the RGB training camp where you'll have to pass the three trials!

Download
Teenagent is a humorous point-and-click adventure, originally available as shareware, but the DOS version was later re-released as freeware. You control Mark Hopper with a mouse - click on where you want him to go, left-click on objects and people to look at them, and right-click on them to interact with them. By moving the cursor to the top of the screen, you bring up your inventory.
(Note: the game isn't connected in any way to the 1991 movie Teen Agent.)

The 7th Guest

The 7th Guest is a puzzle-adventure game which takes place inside an abandoned mansion. Venture into the 22 rooms of the spooky mansion, solve over 20 mind-bending puzzles to unravel a tale of revenge and horror that took place in the 1930s.

Download
The owner of the mansion was Henry Stauf, a famous maker of children's toys. Once a homeless drifter and thief, influenced by a vision in a dream, Henry invented a wondrous doll, so incredibly life-like that it sold like wildfire. Stauf's toys became popular overnight bringing fame and fortune and changing his rags to riches. But things took a tragic turn when owners of the doll became infected with a fierce and deadly virus. None of those children recovered.
After this turn of events Stauf secluded himself inside his estate, stopped making his toys and never came into contact with the outside world for a long time. Something very strange happened when six people receive an invitation to a party at the mansion. By solving the riddles inside Stauf's "fun house", you'll delve into the past to learn what happened to them, and the mysterious 7th guest, on that fateful night.
The game is played in first person perspective with a point-and-click interface featuring horror-themed animated cursors (skeletons, bulging-eye skulls etc.). It is one of the first games to be released on the then-new CD-Rom media. The graphics are fully rendered in SVGA, and real actors and actresses bring the story to life during numerous full-motion video cut scenes. The visuals are accompanied by an original, orchestrated musical score.
To finish the game, you must solve the puzzles in Stauf's manor; each solved puzzle will unlock new rooms or new movie sequences to watch. The puzzles are quite varied; there's the classic "eight queens puzzle", another puzzle where you need to compose a sentence by rearranging letters, and others. If you get stuck, you can visit the library; a book within will give you hints on the puzzle. If the hints aren't enough, the puzzle will solve itself automatically once you consult the book enough times.
Some later, limited releases of the game came with a separate video that included a "behind the scenes" look at the making of the game and interviews with the developers.

The Neverhood

You are Klaymen. Klaymen wakes up in a building in the strangely empty world of Neverhood. Initially, he does not know where he is or what he has to do, but as he explores the area, he finds mysterious disks. Each disk contains a fragment of a recording; gradually, the backstory is revealed as Klaymen finds more and more disks. It would spoil too much to reveal the exact plot, as finding it out is part of the game.

Download
The Neverhood is a point-and-click adventure game, notable for its claymation graphics. It uses a simple interface: you move and interact with the world by clicking on the screen. There is no inventory screen, though Klaymen can find a few items he can pick up. There are few inventory-based puzzles; most of the puzzles involve solving riddles and interacting with the environment. Generally, the game is seen from a 3rd person perspective, but when moving between locales, you see the world through Klaymen's eyes (but you have a limited freedom of movement).

The Legend of Kyrandia: Book 3 - Malcolm's Revenge

Everyone blamed the jester Malcolm for allegedly turning everyone to stone and killing the King and the Queen of Kyrandia. Their son Brandon eventually turned Malcolm himself into stone. However, a thunderbolt strikes the jester, liberating him from his predicament. Now it's his turn to tell the world his version of the truth, whether in his usual mischievous manner or by becoming a nicer person.

Download
Malcolm's Revenge is the third entry in the Legend of Kyrandia series and, like its predecessors, an adventure game focusing on inventory-based puzzles. The basic gameplay is similar to the previous entries: the "smart cursor" is responsible for all the actions in the game - taking, using, talking, etc. During conversations, it is possible to control Malcolm's level of truthfulness as well as his "good" and "bad" attitude. Many puzzles in the game have multiple solutions, though the main story remains unchanged for the most part.

The Legend of Kyrandia 2: Hand of Fate

Hand of Fate is the second installment in the Kyrandia series. The gameplay is similar to that of the previous game. Interaction is possible only with highlighted objects on the screen, and is reduced to a single cursor, without the distinction of separate commands. There are also no branching dialogues. Many of the puzzles involve picking up ingredients and concocting magic spells out of them.

Download
n the first part of this trilogy, Brandon, soon to be a king and only heir to the throne, determined to stop the evil jester Malcolm. Now, Kyrandia is disappearing. The high council found the cure for that - the anchor from the center of the world. When the young sorceress Zanthia comes to that anchor, she realizes it is not the answer. Her friend Marco is in possession of a giant hand, and it looks like that hand is responsible for the sabotage. Now, Zanthia must save Kyrandia before everything else vanishes without a trace.

The Legend of Kyrandia

The Legend of Kyrandia is the first in a trilogy of adventure games by Westwood. In this game the player controls Brandon, grandson of Kallak - a wizard of the realm of Kyrandia. Malcolm, a psychotic jester imprisoned in the past by Kallak, has broken free and wishes to take over the land as well as lay down his revenge. He turns Kallak into stone leaving him with only his eyes, so that Kallak is not denied his tears for Kyrandia's sake.

Download
This is where Brandon steps in; returning home shortly afterwards only to find that his grandfather has been turned into stone, Brandon is being told by a messenger from the Realm of the Land that he has been chosen to embark on a journey that will rid this realm of Malcolm and his evil. He has to prove himself not only a hero, but a worthy heir to the crown and ultimately of becoming a king.

Throughout the journey Brandon will collect many items and also learn how to master magic. Available spells include disappearing, healing yourself, summoning ice upon fire and shifting into a wisp. Interaction with the environment is confined to highlighted items, and a single cursor is used for all actions, without differentiating precise commands.

The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime

The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime is a remake of the earlier The Journeyman Project. The game's graphics and sound have been updated, the game has been modified to be more like the second game in the series Buried in Time and the third game (not released yet then) Legacy of Time. The story is the same as "The Journeyman Project (Turbo!)" and for the first time in the original story Agent 5 is called "Gage Blackwood".

Soltys

(In)famous for jokes about it, the Polish city of Wąchock is the place where the story of the Polish adventure game Sołtys takes place. You play the head of the village of Wąchock and your aim is to find the missing husband of your daughter (who apparently isn't very attractive if you know what I mean). Scared of his future, Leon decides to run away from the wedding and you are responsible for bringing this poor guy back.

Return to Ringworld

Return to Ringworld is the sequel to the previous game based on Larry Niven's "Known Space" series of novels. Once again this game is a point and click adventure/puzzle solving game.

Download
After saving the puppeteer race from extermination and uncovering some powerful ancient technology on the first game, Quinn, Seeker of Vengeance and Miranda Rees find themselves searches as fugitives by all three major species, so they go to Ringworld to hide. Once in Ringworld they'll try to uncover some evidence to clear their names, but they stumble across another universe-threatening plot. This time U.N. general Carson Teal is out to rule the universe by uncovering Ringworld's secrets, and you must stop him.

This game is way, WAY bigger than it's predecessor, with hundreds of screens, mazes, etc. Plus you get to play as all three characters throughout the game, a la Day of the Tentacle.

Ringworld: Revenge Of The Patriarch

A graphical adventure set in Larry Niven's "Known Space" universe. The centerpiece of the Known Space universe is the Ringworld, an artificially created planet that is actually an immense band orbiting a distant star (Halo borrows this idea for its setting). If you aren't familiar with Niven's series, go out and pick up any one of the dozens of Known Space books and you won't be far from having to track down all of them.

Download
In Revenge of the Patriarch, the player must travel to the Ringworld to uncover information which could prevent the alien Kzinti from starting another war with humanity. It follows the standard point and click formula for adventure games.

Nippon Safes Inc.

Nippon Safes, Inc. is the predecessor to Big Red Adventure, both being cartoon adventure games by Italian developer Dynabyte. As in its followup, here players take the role of three different heroes (though, opposite to Goblins series, one at time). They are Doug, the smart safe cracker; Dino, the strong, but dumb, boxer; and Donna, the sexy club dancer.

Download
The game takes place in Tokyo. While all three characters explore almost the same areas, each of the heroes has its own story to follow and puzzles to solve. You can choose which character would you like to play first, and which - lastly. When you have finished all three sub-plots, you'll get a final with all three characters acting altogether.

The game features cartoonish, comics-style graphics, unique icon-based interface and non-linear plot. It is also full of Italian humor, and the game is played more like a comedy, rather then crime-based adventure.

Mortville Manor

Mortville Manor is an adventure game which takes place in 1951. Someone is murdered in an impressive manor, and it's up to Jerome Lange to solve the case. But beware: something otherworldly is going on here...

Download
Mortville Manor is an excellent and highly underrated murder mystery game from French developer Lankhor. Aside from offering a solid plot, the game introduces many features to adventure genre, most notably random factors (that, like the board game Clue!, leads to a different culprit each time you play) and digitized voices (which sound better than Access Software's "RealSound" technology used in Mean Streets, which came out after this game). You played Jerome Lange, a private detective who is tasked with investigating a murder that occurred in a remote manor. Your job, naturally, is to interrogate all potential suspects and go through their possessions to find clues and evidence. Random factors give the game replayability unseen in other games: the killer's identity changes each time you played. Although the mystery takes only about 2-3 hours to solve, the random element keeps replay value high, and solid writing makes the game much more interesting than Clue!. Like most great murder mystery games, almost everyone has something to hide and motive to kill the victim, and therefore it is fun to reduce the possibilities one by one until you figure out the killer. The PC version was never released in English.

Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos

The Dark Army is on the move again, led by the evil sorceress Scotia. Her goal is obvious: to destroy Gladstone Keep and its ruler King Richard. Scotia herself has recently become more powerful after acquiring "the Mask" from the Urban Mines, gaining the ability to shape-shift. She is virtually unstoppable and able to infiltrate Gladstone Keep, poisoning King Richard. If it were not for the intervention of Sorceress Dawn, this monarch would surely be dead. In order to find a cure for the King's illness, a band of heroes must set out on an adventure, and keep themselves alive from the Dark Army forces.

Download
Lands of Lore: Throne of Chaos is a real-time dungeon-crawling role-playing game viewed from first-person perspective. Players begin by choosing one of the four available protagonists: the Dracoid Ak'shel (high magic power), the Huline Kieran (high speed), and two humans: Michael (high strength) and Conrad (balanced character). Each has their weaknesses and strengths, but all abilities in the game can be eventually upgraded.

Much of the game consists of exploring pseudo-3D maze-like dungeons. Most of them contain secret areas and it is sometimes necessary to solve puzzle to advance. Real-time combat involves clicking on either attack or magic icon for each character. Depending on their speed attribute they will need a certain amount of cooldown time before the player can activate them again. Point-and-click interface allows interaction with some background objects, sometimes eliciting comments from the protagonist or his companions.

The game does not feature manual character development, introducing instead a semi-automatic form of leveling up, where skills of the hero and the companions are divided into Fighting, Magic and Rogue skills. Each skill level will increase when killing enemies using a particular type of attack: melee weapons increase the Fighting skills, magic increases the Magic skill, and ranged weapons increase the Rogue skills. In the course of the game players will form a party of up to three heroes in the quest for the cure. The player is able to equip these characters with new weapons and armor in a "paper doll" styled interface. The CD version includes full speech.

Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb

In this game you are Rif, a young fox, who is falsely accused of stealing the magical orb of storms. This orb is capable of predicting when storms will arrive. Obviously this is important to farmers, but it is just as important to the boar tribe, for their supply of mud.

Download
You'll have to find the Orb and the real thief, to clear your name, save your girlfriend and prevent war with the boar tribe. While your doing this you'll encounter a much larger mystery: What is the origin of the tribes? Legend has it that the humans gave the animals the power of thought and speech, and then vanished. Who were they and what happened to them?

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream

The game is based on a collection of short stories by Harlan Ellison. After the Cold War, the computers of the USA, Russia and China take over the world and wipe out almost the entire human race. The Allied Mastercomputer (called AM) holds the last five humans as prisoners to torture them. Any of them has to face his or her past in a virtual adventure AM has designed for them. There they encounter their fears and weaknesses.

Download
The player can choose which of the protagonists he wants to be but in fact he has to complete all of the six stories in order to solve the game. There are different ways of completing the game depending on the humanity the player shows.

The voiceacting features Harlan Ellison as AM.

Hugo III: Jungle of Doom

Hugo III: Jungle of Doom is the third and final installment in the EGA adventure series Hugo. The game features the existing engine in previous Hugo games along with some new features. These include a turbo button, and a "hints" feature. In this game Hugo and his girlfriend Penolope crash in a jungle somewhere in South America and she is soon bitten by a poisonous snake. As Hugo you venture through the jungle, confront a witch doctor and try to find the "pool of life".

Hugo's House of Horrors

You are Hugo and you have to save your girlfriend, who had went to babysit a baby in a haunted house. Gameplay is similar to traditional Sierra-style adventures.

Download
This 16-color, parser based adventure created by one guy, David Gray, starts when your girlfriend Penelope is missing. She was last seen in a house where she went babysitting. That's where you start out as Hugo, in the House of Horrors. The inhabitants have captured your girlfriend in here, as you'll find out, and it's up to you to rescue her. It is here that you'll meet some characters that'll reappear in the other games in the trilogy. It's pretty fun in the style of early Sierra graphic adventures. Initially released as shareware, "the Hugo trilogy" enhanced versions were upgraded on 10/9/1995 by the original developer so that they will now run in Windows. Unlike the original DOS version text commands, the Windows version features an intuitive point & click mouse interface, toolbar, status bar, MIDI background music and digital sound effects (with a sound card) and complete online help and hints for every puzzle. A 2001 fan-made remake was done with AGS by Spyros but was later pulled.

Hopkins FBI

The infamous terrorist Bernie Berckson was sentenced to death and electrocuted twice. Somehow, he remained alive, and managed to escape. Now, he's leading a new criminal organisation. As Special Agent Hopkins, you must find and arrest him and anyone belonging to his gang.

Download

As Hopkins's arch nemesis, Bernie Beckson, is about to be electrocuted for commandeering a nuclear missal bombardment on the state of California, the lights flicker, and when they come back on the electric chair is empty. Since Special Agent Hopkins was responsible for capturing Beckson the first time, he is immediately notified of the improbable escape. It is a great beginning that gets even better as the deranged Beckson then proceeds to kidnap, torture and mutilate renowned scientists and friends of Hopkins. The bodies are always found in a grisly fashion that recalls the classic Vincent Price movie The Abominable Dr. Phibes. Written clues are left at the scene of each progressively bloodier carcass in order to lead Hopkins to the next victim. Then in the middle of the story, there are two startlingly tragic occurrences that are totally unexpected, but instead of using this as a springboard to darken the mood of the story, Hopkins instead leaves the city and follows his foe first to a lush tropical island, then to an underwater lair that appears as though it were constructed by a supervillain and finally to the Realm of the Dead. It's a fun but disappointingly short cartoon adventure. Lack of hype and distribution muscle makes this one of the most obscure adventure games ever made. The mood and style of Hopkins FBI belies is bright, cartoony graphics: a noir detective game, full of shady characters and gory scenes that will likely offend some people. The premise is banal, but developed quite nicely throughout the game. The game is very much a French-style graphic adventure, the likes of which are rarely seen since Revolution's excellent Broken Sword games. The characters are believable, and the pace of the game is handled very well, with excellent cut-scenes throughout the game that advance the storyline.

Future Wars

Future Wars is a graphic adventure game, the first to use Delphine's proprietary Cinematique point-and-click interface. A right click brings up the verb menu. After choosing one of the six commands, you point the mouse over the desired target and execute with a left click. Small objects are depicted by enlarged drawings - once you found them. Pixel hunting is a very frequent aspect of Future Wars. Lazy players are punished with puzzle dead-ends.

What an unlikely hero! You are a window cleaner. A common, little window cleaner. Yet you discover, more due to your notorious curiosity than by mistake, a time machine in your chiefs back office. Strange? Absolutely. Your adventure in the past and the future is about to begin. The quest? Four words: Evil aliens. Beautiful girl.

Flight of the Amazon Queen

Joe King is the hero of this point and click adventure. His plane is carrying actress Faye Russell when it crash lands in a remote jungle, and he must battle through 100 screens of adventure and puzzle. The game's feel is influenced by hammy B-movies, and the characters are quite stereotyped and comic. As standard in point and click adventures, a set of icons at the bottom of the screen allow you to interact with visible characters and items in the main view area.

Download
It is 1949 and you play Joe King, pilot for hire with his small private plane the "Amazon Queen". The game is a spoof of old time adventure serials. After yet another daring escape at the start of the game, Joe suddenly remembers that he is scheduled to fly the famous movie star, Faye Russell, to a photo shoot in the Amazon jungle the next morning. But when he arrives at the hotel to pick her up, his arch rival Hans Anderson of Flying Dutchman Airlines locks him in the room. Finding a way out, he takes off with Miss Russell only to have his plane get hit by lightning and crash in the Amazon jungle. Now he will have to face some horrible challenges to survive: 6 feet tall 'pygmies', beautiful Amazon women (and their happy prisoners!), misguided missionaries, a wisecracking parrot, and of course a mad scientist, who's trying to take over the world by injecting dinosaur DNA into the women. This is a long, 3rd person, point & click game, with easy to use icons for action, a small inventory, and a brilliant map. The music is upbeat and changes with each location, the graphics are imaginative and colorful, with careful attention to often-hysterical details (Aztec temple statues holding baseball bats!), and the short animated cut scenes used to advance the story are a pure delight to watch. The puzzles are crazy, absorbing and fun (wearing fake breasts, bartering with a pygmy), and are usually solved by clues you have picked up in conversations and/or with inventory items. Most are not too difficult, but they do get harder as you go along. The CD-ROM version also offers surprisingly good voice acting - a rare treat in adventure games. It was made freeware on Mar 16/2004 when the source code was kindly given to the ScummVM team who then made it fully compatible with their engine.

They feature great graphics for their time, tons of cool weapons and devious real-time puzzles that mysteriously make you come back for more traps and pressure plates to push. The plots are typical kill-the-big-foozle fare, but the games are so well implemented that you'll be glued to the screen for hours on end. The graphics and animations are both top-notch, and excellent sound effects add to the incredible "you are there" atmosphere that is rarely achieved in RPGs of that time.

Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon

In the sequel to Eye of the Beholder, the Archmage Khelben summons the Heroes of Waterdeep, slayers of the Beholder Xanathar, for another mission. Strange things are happening in the forests near Waterdeep, centered around the Temple Darkmoon. People have been disappearing and shallow graves containing human remains have been found. Khelben teleports the party to the forests near Darkmoon so they may find out what kind of evil is working in the towers of the temple.

Khelben teleports the party to the forests near Darkmoon so they may find out what kind of evil is working in the towers of the temple. The Legend of Darkmoon is, like its predecessor, a first-person role-playing game based on the 2nd Edition AD&D rules. It uses the same point-and-click gameplay mechanics and controls as the first game, with only minor changes. A starting party consists of four characters, which can be transferred from the earlier game or created from scratch. Characters can reach higher levels and learn new spells, must face new and tough monsters, and solve multiple puzzles. Compared to the first game, many more illustrated NPC encounters and cutscenes were added. Although EOB 2 feels at times like a poor rehash of its predecessor due to awfully similar graphics and monsters, it does feature more expansive and varied outdoor levels, as well as less frustrating endgame boss (defeating the Beholder in EOB 1 is nearly impossible if your party is not at maximum levels). They're both very challenging games that are definite must-play for dungeon-adventurers, especially fans of book-based AD&D.

Draci Historie is a Czech point-and-click adventure game, originally the first Czech CD game ever to be published in 1995, and later released as open-source freeware in 2006 by the original developer. It follows the standards of the genre, where the main objective is to collect a series of scenery objects and use them to solve puzzles. The inventory shows the interior of a brown sack, and can be accessed by placing the cursor on the top of the screen. A map showing an overhead view of the land can be summoned by positioning the cursor at the bottom. New places are automatically added to the map as the player explores the surroundings, allowing instantaneous travel to any of the previously visited locations. The dialogue with other characters uses the branching tree system implemented by several other games, where multiple questions and answers appear listed as options at the bottom and the player has to select one of them. There is no menu with verbs, instead all the actions are performed with the right mouse button, while the left one is used to get descriptions of objects and portions of the scenery. In late 2009, Robert Spalek personally added the game to the ScummVM interpreter project.

Discworld II: Mortality Bytes!

Mortality Bytes casts players again in the role of Rincewind, from the first game. Death, the grim reaper, who normally ushers the Discworld inhabitants into the afterlife, is on an extended vacation. This means that those whose "time is up" are faltering around in limbo. Now it's up to Rincewind to bring him back or suffer the fate of immortality.

Download
In this wonderfully funny sequel to the original, we are treated to another one of the great stories to be found on Terry Pratchett's Discworld. And to our delight, this one is about our favorite character from the original: 'Death'. You see Death is missing. He's decided to "go on holiday" and is sitting on a beach somewhere, sipping those drinks with the cute little umbrellas, because he "likes to travel and meet people"! Unfortunately this has caused all manner of problems in Ankh-Morpork which, of course, had more than its share of problems to begin with, given the melting pot of species who live there and the general low moral tone of the place. But now 'undead' people are piling up in the streets faster than the dead collectors can stack them on the wagons, and they've run out of places to store them. Rincewind (The Wizard) and LuggageSomeone must bring Death back, and fast! Otherwise the people will be faced with "the horrible prospect of immortality", and God knows, "no one wants that, now do they?" Of course, the one they choose for this unpleasant task must be someone easily expendable, just in case Death isn't too happy about being disturbed. And who better than Rincewind, our favorite little sarcastic and cowardly Wizard. Rincewind, however, isn't too keen for the job, since Death has often offered to go ahead and "reap his soul in passing, just to save time"! And so begins again another delightful tale where opportunities abound for the tongue-in-cheek humor and social commentary of the Pratchett novels, along with all the sight gags and atrocious puns. The game would be well worth its price for the introductory song alone: an inspired and hysterical parody of Frank Sinatra's song 'That's Life', called 'That's Death'! This 2D, 3rd person, point and click adventure also features again the many-legged 'Luggage' as your inventory, challenging puzzles (but not as crazy, this time), lots of new locations and characters, and the wonderful return of Monty Python's Eric Idle as the voice of Rincewind. All sequels should be this good!

Discworld

This adventure game puts the player in the shoes of Rincewind, a wizard whose sole purpose in life is to stay alive. He appears to be very good at it as well, because apparently the universe has decided to continuously challenge him. The game takes place in the humorous fantasy world created by Terry Pratchett. The world is called the Discworld, as it is actually a flat disc carried on the backs of four gigantic elephants, which themselves stand on the back of an even larger turtle.

Download
One of the most underrated adventure games ever, Discworld is based on Terry Pratchett's pun-filled fantasy Discworld series, in which the whole world is carried through space by a turtle, and idioms and puns do have a life of their own. As bumbling wizard Rincewind, prevent the Dragon from destroying the world. The game has great humor (although dialogues drag on at times), and some of the most devious but logical puzzles ever designed. Famed Monty Python veteran Eric Idle's performance as the voice of Rincewind is flawless, although some dialogues are very long-winded to the point of frustrating. Clever puzzles and hilarious animations, however, more than make up for it. Highly recommended for Pratchett fans and fans of zany adventure games in general.

DreamWeb

Ryan, a bartender from a dystopian future can't sleep peacefully for months. His nights are sequences of nightmares and strange dreams, days with frequent black-outs with strange visions, until one night a figure in monk attire appears to him, and tells him the story of the seven evil ones, uniting to destroy to Dreamweb, the only barrier between the world and darkness. The monk makes a proposition: Ryan becomes the "deliverer": the one who would keep the Dreamweb safe by killing those who try to destroy it.

Dreamweb is a dark, brooding game set in a dystopian near-future. You play Ryan, a bartender who is plagued by nightmares in this cyberpunk inspired adventure game. These nightmares eminate from the dreamweb, which affects the plane of your subconscious. The web has been corrupted by the presence of seven controlling figures and your job is to kill them, cleanse the web and save the world from madness. Considerable attention is paid to the game's atmosphere, but the value of a strong narrative is overlooked. The dialogue is functional rather than enjoyable. Puzzles have logical solutions, but the fact that you can pick up almost everything makes the solutions obscure at times. A prime example of style over content, but definitely worth a look for its gripping plot and very atmospheric gameplay. There's also a controversial and one of the earliest uncensored sex scenes in a mainstream PC game.

Cruise for a Corpse

Cruise for a Corpse is a graphic adventure game with a point-and-click interface. 1927. When Inspector Raoul Dusentier is invited to a cruise upon a mighty sailing ship by the wealthy businessman Niklos Karaboudjan, he looks forward to nothing but a relaxing week on the sea. Instead, his host manages to get himself killed on the second day. Murdered, to be exact. Too convenient that a policeman is aboard -- Dusentier sets out to search for suspects. He doesn't need to search long. Why is it that none of the family members seem awfully sad about the demise of the old man? Is the mysterious Father Fabiani really as pious as he says? In the best tradition of Agatha Christie, each and every person on board has a motive for the murder.

Download
You advance in the plot not so much by solving common object-based puzzles, but by talking to the right persons about the right subjects at the right time, thus collecting clues. You will also find pieces of evidence scattered throughout the ship. However, most items suddenly appear in cupboards and drawers that were previously empty - an awfully unnerving process. The clock advances in ten-minute-steps whenever you discover an interesting clue, which conveniently informs you of your progress. The protagonists move around the ship; so whenever time passes, different persons to talk to might appear at certain locations. Delphine's Cinematique interface reached "Evolution 2". Instead of containing a fixed number of verbs, the command menu is now context-sensitive. The mouse cursor will change its appearance when moved over an interesting object; a left-click brings up a set of appropriate verbs. A right-click accesses the inventory. Another interesting improvement: All the persons in the game are animated polygons.

Bud Tucker in Double Trouble

This wacky adventure puts the player in the shoes of Bud Tucker, a pizza delivery boy during the day and lab assistant at nights. One day, Bud found the Professor missing and later learns he's been kidnapped by the evil Dick Tate! Tate, an insane, whiny sob wishes to create a world filled with the people he loves most...himself. To do that, he plans to use one of the Professor's invention and clone a billion versions of himself to populate the world. It's up to Bud Tucker to track down the loon and the Professor before Barryville becomes Tate Town.

Download
It's a point & click adventure where you must travel to various locations in Barryville and find clues and help from the citizens there. The game play consists of picking up items and using them when necessary. There are 3 parts in the game and in the first part, Bud Tucker is locked up in a crumbly hotel in Seedy Street. Speech is available in the game as well as subtitles. The menu (pick up, use, etc) can be displayed in words as well as icons. This cartoon adventure is sadly little known because Eidos cancelled its plan to distribute the game in the U.S... probably due to poor sales in Europe, which is probably due to lack of marketing. Because: it's a fun and solid game in every respect with a wacky plot, though disappointingly short.

Blue Force

May 15 1984. In a bar, shortly after a shady deal took place two men enter the bar. They are undercover cops, and once the criminal notices them, he flees the bar, and as his motorcycle skims past town, the pick-up truck used by the undercover cops isn't capable of keeping up when the criminal goes past a fence into an open field. However, while escaping, he left something very important behind. Three days later, someone breaks one of the agents' house. Inside, John and Jackie Ryan are brutally assassinated by an unknown hitman. Their son Jake witnesses everything hidden from the closet in his parent's room.

Download
Unarguably the best game from the group of renegade ex-Sierra employees that made up Tsunami, Blue Force is an excellent police adventure by none other than Jim Walls, of Police Quest fame. Despite easy puzzles, hackneyed dialogues, and a cliche plot, the game features a great interface, charming characters and graphics, and lots of optional points. Help rookie Jake Ryan on investigations that will shed light on his parents' mysterious death. It's much easier than Walls' Police Quest games, but it's still a great adventure that will particularly appeal to beginners. Much better than the overhyped Police Quest 4 (which was not designed by Walls) at least.

3 Skulls of the Toltecs

Fenimore Fillmore happens to rescue an old peddler being attacked by some rustlers, but it is also him who accidentally leads the old man to his death by passing him the hair lotion. Just a few minutes before his death, the peddler revealed that he owned one of three skulls that will unlock the treasure of the Toltecs. Fenimore takes hold of the skull, but is then shot by the rustlers and passes out, with the skull going to the hands of the rustlers. When he regains consciousness, he sets out to recover all three and unearth the treasure himself. And of course, beside Fenimore, some other people are also searching for these skulls...

Download
3 Skulls is a very funny spoof of the old Clint Eastwood spaghetti western 'The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly'. They have included so many take-offs on classic westerns (including recognizable voice impersonations) that you'll never be able to think about those movies in quite the same way again. Our hero is Fenimore Fillmore, a young "honest and well-intentioned" (well, sort of) cowpoke in 1866 Arizona. En route to stake a claim and make his fortune, he is about to stop at Big Town to get a drink for his horse and maybe himself, when he accidentally stumbles onto an ambush in progress. And there he learns of a vast undiscovered Toltec treasure that awaits whoever finds the 3 Golden Skulls. But to find that treasure, he must first deal with a corrupt priest and a larcenous soldier, not to mention Harvard educated Apaches, lustful parrots, grossly incompetent bankers, Anti-Alcoholic League women, amnesiac Mexican revolutionary generals, and many, many other hilarious characters. Sidesplitting humor and happy music, with clever puzzles that are appropriate for the storyline and an easy to use point & click interface. The game is very rare in retail, especially in North America where only a few hundred copies exist, but it was later included with the developer's next game involving Fenimore Fillmore called Wanted: A Wild Western Adventure (in Europe it's Fenimore Fillmore: The Westerner).

Space Quest V: The Next Mutation

After travelling back and forth through time in the previous game, Roger Wilco is back in the Starfleet Acadamy, serving as both a cadet and a janitor. Cheating his way through the Starfleet Aptitude Test, Roger is finally given the rank of captain, his own ship (a garbage scow) and a mission: to explore strange new worlds (which no man in his right mind would explore), to seek out new life and new civilizations (which grew out of the massive amounts of trash Roger will collect on his way), to boldly go where no man has gone before. Step by step Roger will have to unveil a galaxy-wide biohazardous material dumping scheme, solve the mystery of the disappearance of a fellow Starfleet captain and his ship, and confront an agent of an old nemesis.

In the simplest sense, Space Quest 5 is a gigantic spoof of the 1960s television series, Star Trek. Even the opening scene (and the subtitle) of the game resemble it. Not that that is bad. The plot of Space Quest 5 is much more intriguing and immersive than most new games in all genres. Basically, Roger Wilco, the hero/janitor/all-around great guy of the Space Quest series, has enrolled in StarCon shortly after the events chronicled in Space Quest 4. Unfortunately, the StarCon Academy is very difficult for him, the main reasons being that it requires actual work to complete and the fact that he has gotten on the bad side of the toupee-wearing captain on the station, Captain Quirk. By some extreme luck, he manages to graduate (thanks to his roaming eyes on the final exam and a computer breakdown) and becomes captain of the garbage scow Eureka. With his trigger-happy gunner and green-skinned helm officer, Roger Wilco must survive a homicidal female android set to kill him and solve the mystery of unauthorized trash dumping, which obviously leads him to saving the galaxy.

Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers

Following his humorous adventures in previous game, Roger Wilco is relaxing at his favorite pub somewhere in time and space when heavily armed soldiers enter the room. Carrying a parting message from Roger's old nemesis, Sludge Vohaul, they plan to get rid of the janitorial hero, execution style. That is, until a man with an over-sized hair dryer helps Roger escape through a time rip into the future. Now Roger Wilco has woken up on his home planet, some time in a meta-fictional Space Quest XII. It is a grim, dystopian future: the series has gone to ruin without its hero, and Vohaul rules supreme. Roger must find a way to avoid Vohaul's henchmen, fulfill his destiny, and learn about a few surprises that await him in his own future.

The most logical way to do this is to run amok through past, future and the end of the universe, having a few laughs along the way. If there's a few spare moments, he might swing by the galaxy's biggest mall, charm his ex-girlfriend whom he knows nothing about and provoke some brawly monochrome bikers living in the original graphics of Space Quest I. Space Quest IV is the first in the series to feature Sierra's SCI interface (better known as "VGA icons"). Sierra's standard icon set, used here, includes icons for Walking, Looking, Using/Pickup, Smelling, Tasting as well as inventory access. Roger Wilco is shown on the screen from the exterior in multiple viewpoints. It was released on floppy disks initially, and then on CD-ROM in December 1992 with full speech support and featuring Laugh-In announcer Gary Owens as the voice of the narrator. It featured 256-color hand painted graphics and a fully mouse-driven interface. It was one of the first games to use motion capture animation. The game cost over US$1,000,000 to produce, but sold m ore than its three predecessors combined. Like Space Quest III, this one featured a mini-game: Ms. Astro Chicken.

Space Quest III: The Pirates of Pestulon

Narrowly escaping the events of Space Quest II: Vohaul's Revenge, Roger Wilco's escape pod floats through space. As just another metallic item of junk, it's soon picked up by an interstellar garbage hauler. Waking up in a pile of trash, quite familiar for this janitor-turned-hero, Roger Wilco must somehow escape. Once given access to the rest of the galaxy, he'll soon find himself having to avoid a collections cyborg for payments overdue, dealing with the corporate prison of software company Scummsoft, and having to digest the greasy food from the galaxy's finest hamburger joint.

This was the first SQ game to be developed using an early version of Sierra's SCI engine. It featured music composed by the Supertramp drummer, Bob Siebenberg, and was one of the first games in the world that came with SoundBlaster support. As well as this impressive sound-support, PC versions of the game now supported mouse movement and a new, heavily improved, text parser. All this and he might be expected to get the high score playing Astro Chicken (tm) also! Space Quest 3 is a graphical adventure. The mouse is functional for movement and inventory access, however the game primarily relies on a text parser for specific commands and manipulation of objects on screen. In addition to the regular game, there is also a simple non-scrolling Astro Chicken game that's playable, as well as a radar screen representation for ship-to-ship space combat.

Space Quest 1: Roger Wilco in the Sarien Encounter

Space Quest 1: Roger Wilco in the Sarien Encounter is a remake of the original release of Space Quest: Chapter I - The Sarien Encounter. The new version has enhanced graphics (256 color VGA) and soundblaster support. It uses the SCI game engine (point-and-click interface, icons along the top) rather than the AGI engine (mixed point-and-click with text parser). Some of the puzzles have been slightly changed to accommodate the new interface and there is also possibility to skip the arcade part.

Poor Roger Wilco, while our ace-janitor was taking a nap in the utility closet the evil Sariens attacked the starship Arcada, murdered the rest of the crew and stole the Star Generator. This is a tool that can turn a barren moon into a blazing sun, but I bet I the Sariens' intentions are a lot less noble. Now it's up to Roger to stop them. The future of the galaxy lies in his, rather clumsy, hands! But first you'll have to find a way for Roger to get off the Arcada before it explodes. You have fifteen minutes. This is a remake of Sierra's 1987 AGI release Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter. It is a humoristic adventure game. The new version has VGA graphics, soundblaster support and a point-and-click interface. Some of the puzzles have also been changed. Curiously, the VGA remake featured the taste and smell icons, which were rarely used during gameplay and were only featured in one Sierra game after Space Quest I, namely Space Quest IV, where they were as rarely used.
